Start living a healthier lifestyle today by following these 4 tips:
- For health and weight loss, fill half of your plate with fruits and vegetables at every meal. This helps to keep your calories under control and ensures that you are receiving enough fibre, phytochemicals, vitamins and minerals in your diet, which control risk factors for many diseases and improves your skin health.
- Pick a specific day every year (ie. your birthday) to take stock of your health and make appointments with your physician, dentist, gynecologist, dermatologist, or other specialists so you can get your screenings booked (mammogram, PAP test, colon check, etc.)
- Take time for yourself during the day to relieve stress by doing something you enjoy (like walking the dog).
- Walk at least 10 minutes a day. Brisk walking is good for your heart, and slow walking is good for your health and weight control. Park further away from any entrance and use the stairs instead of the elevator. Little things add up.
It is not about dieting, but a change in how we eat and exercise. Individuals need to take stock in their health and move to a healthy way of living. The goal is to make a conscious decision to move in the right direction for a long, happy and healthy life.
